So all day today I thought it was Wednesday. Then my ex-husband said he was picking up the kids tomorrow and I was like, "Why? Tomorrow is Thursday."
"Uh, no, it is Friday."
"Oh my, Friday already?!"
And so it goes, my week has been a little crazy! I am gearing up for my first ever Intro to Copic Class and Intermediate Copic class that I am teaching on Sunday at the store. I have been making some fun little samples, stamping and what not, airbrushing with my son who is 9, so I know that the adults in the class will be fine with what I am having them do. I am happy that I get to teach how people can use these markers that they have invested in. It is an investment, Copics are not cheap, but oh, how beautiful they make the images and art we make! I don't have a single Copic marker in my store right now. My order won't be coming until May, but it isn't about selling them on Sunday. It is about empowering people to break out their markers and Color. Play. Explore.
As a store owner I cringe every time people explain to me that they do not "need another thing. I can practically open a store with everything that I own." Meaning that they have not USED the products they have bought over the years. That makes me sad. Paper, pens, glue, stickers and embellishments look nice in clear little bottles on the shelves, but their purpose is when they are USED. Used to create. Used to tell a story. Used to play.
It makes me sad when people don't want to share their supplies with their children because they are "too expensive" to let them use. But then the paper, stickers, paint, etc., stay in boxes, drawers and cupboards for years. Maybe they dry out, crumble, rub ons don't want to rub on anymore, stickers have lost their stick and markers won't write anymore. :( It is the same as buying a book to put in your library and never crack the spine and read the words. And, yes, people do that too.
Let your children PLAY. Let them CREATE. If you are too scared to, maybe your kids/grandkids can help you find the inner artist you have tucked inside. You know, the artist that can't wait to buy something new, the artist that can master a technique rather quickly and the artist that can imagine the possibilities of creation waiting .... but the one who is too busy, too tired, too scared to get to work on their ART.
So now I am sitting here after work writing the blog to post tomorrow. My last blog entry of the week, and the last blog entry for a while since Amy comes home from Idaho and on Monday she is back at posting, which she does such a great job at. But instead of Fabulous Friday's Video I am leaving you with this quote. A quote not meant to discourage, but to make you break out your supplies and look at them anew and get busy living and making art!
